Emerging Leader Award
The Emerging Leader Award is presented to an exceptional individual who has been a member with less than 2 years involvement with NextUp. This leader has demonstrated their commitment to NextUp’s mission by opening minds, developing capacity and creating opportunities for others.
Nomination Process: Open to all NextUp members who can nominate any member other than themselves.
Criteria
The nominee must have made a significant contribution to NextUp in their first 1-2 years as a member. The nominee must have shown outstanding promise for continuing service and leadership.

2025 Award Winner
Alexs Hermans Scheffler, NextUp Michigan
Alexs has made an extraordinary impact since joining NextUp in 2023, exemplifying the spirit of the Emerging Leader Award through her energy, innovation, and commitment to inclusion. As Internal Engagement Chair for the NextUp Michigan Region, she revitalized member connection with statewide Coffee Chats, Quarterly Welcome Calls, and a new volunteer onboarding process that strengthened engagement and retention. A seasoned leader at General Mills, she has driven growth, led transformative initiatives, and fostered recognition and volunteerism across her teams. Named a 2025 Top Women in Convenience – Rising Star, she continues to elevate those around her and shape the future of inclusive leadership.
