Behind the Firewall: Conversations with Women in Technology, sponsored by Authentix, takes you inside the experiences of women who are breaking barriers and driving progress in the tech industry. In this edition, hear from Stephanie Adjete, Commercial Manager for West & Central Africa at Authentix and a new member of our NextUp community. Through her story, we gain a firsthand understanding of how mentorship, community, and diverse perspectives are driving innovation, while also highlighting the critical role of fostering inclusive company cultures to create lasting, positive change.

Authentix Inc. the authority in authentication solutions, is headquarters in Addison, Texas USA, with offices in North America, Europe, Middle East, and Africa, serving clients worldwide.

What initially inspired you to pursue a career in technology?

I have always seen technology as a remarkable and powerful tool, and the impact it has depends on whose hands it is in. Rather than pursuing a career in technology alone, I sought to work within an organization that aligned with my values. Working with Authentix has given me the opportunity to use the dynamic tool of technology to make a tangible, positive impact on the world, allowing me to have a career full of innovation and learning.

How have you seen the tech industry evolve in terms of diversity and inclusion since you started your career?

While there is still room for improvement, it’s clear that more companies are prioritizing diversity and inclusion initiatives, recognizing the value of diverse perspectives in driving innovation. With a presence in Africa, Europe, Asia, and America, we see this firsthand as we rely on local and diverse expertise to serve our clients effectively across the globe.

NextUp has a strong focus on empowering the next generation of leaders. As a woman in the technology industry, what are you doing to empower the next generation of women leaders in the tech industry?

Authentix recently funded a chemistry lab for Malaika, a girls’ school in Lubumbashi, the Democratic Republic of Congo, providing high quality equipment for the 400 full time students to discover the world of chemistry through hand-on instruction and experimentation. As a company with offices worldwide—in America, Europe, Asia, and Africa—we are committed to giving back and creating lasting positive impacts in the communities where we operate.

What has it meant to you to be involved in such a project that is opening so many doors in the technology industry for young women?

Being part of a company that invests in project like this is profoundly meaningful to me. This initiative goes far beyond funding; it is about breaking down barriers and showing these bright, curious young women that their dreams are valid and that they have a rightful place in tech—or any field where they can make a difference in their communities. It is also about fostering impactful, lasting change in partnership with grassroots organizations that deeply understand these communities.

What excites you most about being part of the NextUp community, and how do you see it benefiting your career?

I recently joined NextUp and have already heard from colleagues about the invaluable networking opportunities and skill-building workshops it offers. I’m eager to take full advantage of this support system and connect with experienced women across many industries. I would even advocate for hosting a conference or event in Ghana, or more broadly in West Africa, for all the women in this part of the world.

What role do mentorship and professional networks like NextUp play in helping women navigate male-dominated industries?

Mentorship and professional networks are essential, as they offer guidance, support, and valuable connections. One of the things I love about NextUp is its focus on community. It’s a space for sharing resources and opportunities—a safe environment where you can fail quickly, learn from it, and grow.

What advice would you give to women interested in pursuing a career in technology?

I would encourage them to pursue their interests confidently. Seek mentors, stay curious, and do not hesitate to ask questions. Avoid viewing the tech industry solely through a gendered lens; you might be surprised by the support and advocacy you encounter once you move past any initial stereotypes about tech.
