Leadership Summit Awards

Every year at NextUp Leadership Summit, NextUp honors our hard-working regions, ambassadors, and volunteers with awards recognizing the incredible work they do for our organization! Our volunteers are the lifeblood of NextUp, connecting women and their allies to the resources we provide, and furthering our mission of Advancing All Women.

Powering Allyship

This volunteer has demonstrated a high level of engagement in their region and serves as a role model and advocate for advancing all women. Please explain why this person should receive the award. They demonstrate proactive willingness to learn and be a voice for all members of their community.

  • Criteria 1: Active involvement in Region leadership team, including using their influence to encourage people and organizations to join and engage with NextUp.
  • Criteria 2: Track record of advancing and advocating for all individuals within their Region. Engages in generous, world-class listening.
  • Criteria 3: Demonstrates that gender inequality is an issue for all people to solve. Committed to building relationships and actively works to address inequities at work and within their Region.

Emerging Leader Award

The Emerging Leader Award is presented to a Region volunteer who has been a volunteer with less than 2 years involvement with NextUp. Within their volunteer role, this leader has stepped up to the responsibilities of their role and helped to implement processes and changes that ensure the region’s success.

  • Criteria 1: The nominee must have made a significant contribution to NextUp in their first 1-2 years as a volunteer. The nominee must have shown outstanding promise for continuing service and leadership.
  • Criteria 2: They show curiosity, encourage others and are a strong team player.


Kristine Pettoni Courageous Leadership Award

This award was created in 2020 to honor the legacy and life of Kristine Pettoni from our NextUp Atlanta Region. Kristine embodied a courageous leader in everything she did and represented from workplace to home. Kristine always found time to mentor, lead, use her voice, include others, and leave this world in a better place as she fought her battle with cancer. Please nominate someone who has demonstrated resiliency, reveals vulnerability, confronts reality head-on, seeks feedback and listens, gives credit to others, and establishes higher standards for their team.

IMPACT – Bobbi O’Hare Impact Award

The Impact Award was created to honor our founder of the regions, Bobbie O’Hare. The recipient of this award demonstrates a superior level of leadership in the regions while developing a boldly inclusive community at the local level. Their accomplishments go beyond their region and positively impact NextUp’s mission.

Every Regional Leadership Team may nominate one leader who demonstrates IMPACT in all their decisions. Each individual nominee will be recognized as its Region’s “Best of the Best”. One nominee from the 21 regions will be awarded the IMPACT Bobbie O’Hare Award.

Powering the People

This award goes to a region that has invested in its team to ensure all regional volunteers are well-positioned for success.

  • Criteria 1: Successfully managed a volunteer onboarding process by leveraging NextUp resources. Recruited new volunteers and retained existing volunteers through internal engagement, effective training, coaching, and/or development of Committee Leaders and Board Officers.
  • Criteria 2: Built a diverse and inclusive board team (i.e. recruitment of new talent, male allies, people of color, LGBTQIA+, industry expansion).
  • Criteria 3: Successfully utilized the Internal Engagement Officer role to promote team cohesion through internal networking, team building, and forging meaningful connections.
  • Criteria 4: Created opportunities for volunteers to lead events, lead volunteers, engage in speaking opportunities while developing their professional skills.

Powering the Community

This award is given to regions that go above and beyond to provide mentoring, build outreach programs with colleges and universities, and create strategic alliances in their local community.

  • Criteria 1: Mentoring, College/University Engagement– extending NextUp to students, interns and emerging leaders by engaging them through programs and events in NextUp Region(s).
  • Criteria 2: Local Alliances – establish, strengthen, and build community with local companies and/or other like-minded organizations in regional geographies to scale the mission and grow membership. Using local alliance to engage local communities through collaborative programming.
  • Criteria 3: Local Sponsorships – demonstrates a strong sponsorship program that secures and retains regional sponsors who invest in and commit to NextUp’s mission.

Powering the Purpose

This award is given to a region that drives NextUp’s mission through boldly inclusive programming that educates and drives awareness around leadership development, diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging for all.

  • Criteria 1: Provide examples where the region creates boldly inclusive programming that invites and educates new and existing members and empowers them to become advocates of NextUp’s mission.
  • Criteria 2: Develop innovative and inclusive programming that engages diverse groups.
  • Criteria 3: Delivers consistent and effective marketing campaigns to promote regional events and NextUp programs, messaging, and content across multiple platforms to increase engagement.

Powering the People

This award is in recognition of an Ambassador or Ambassador team who deploys best practices that elevate and implements membership strategy, utilizes all/most of their memberships, and activates regional engagement.

  • Example 1: Created a diverse and inclusive NextUp Membership base (gender, age, ethnicity, career level) through effective membership kick-offs and integration of your ERG, coupled with senior leader participation and support to foster engagement and collaboration.
  • Example 2: Provided leadership for NextUp members through effective onboarding and increasing YOY engagement in NextUp Learning and Development programs, Workshops, and Regional events through targeted communication, meetings and/or ‘Lunch and Learns.’
  • Example 3: Provided guidance and recommendation for NextUp programming that resulted in the advancement and promotion of NextUp members.
  • Example 4: Customized programming you have implemented as an extension of the work you are doing with NextUp that supports NextUp engagement and the overall mission.

Powering the Partnership

This award highlights an Ambassador or Ambassador team who excel at creating awareness for NextUp cross-functionally at their company. They are strategic and leverage internal relationships, engaging with all levels of employees, including executive involvement in NextUp Ambassador Calls, ‘Lunch and Learns,’ and regional engagement and leadership.

  • Example 1: Participated in NextUp opportunities and encouraged member participation in NextUp – e.g: the Ambassador Call Best Practice Showcase, ‘Lunch and Learns,’ the Advancing All Women podcast, Regional events, speaking opportunities, or volunteering on Regional Committees.
  • Example 2: College/university engagement– extending NextUp to students and interns, and getting them involved in NextUp Regions.
  • Example 3: Collaborated with other external NextUp Ambassadors (outside of Ambassador Calls) to build a network and sharing of best practices.
  • Example 4: Employed new ideas to increase membership and engagement. Membership seats filled at 90 – 100% activation.


Powering the Purpose

This award goes to the Ambassador or Ambassador team that have achieved all-around engagement at their organization, and participation by their organization in a majority of NextUp programs, events, conferences, Ambassador monthly calls, etc.

  • Example 1: YOY increase in NextUp DEI&B Learning and Development programming, including engagement from internal DEI Leaders.
  • Example 2: Collaborated with NextUp Learning and Development team to provide elevated learning opportunities within your organization through NextUp Ascend, Transform, Women in Tech Affinity Group or customized program.
  • Example 3: Implemented customized programming as an extension of the work they have done with NextUp which supports NextUp engagement and the overall mission.

Powering Allyship

This award is presented to an Ambassador or Ambassador team who embrace allyship and promote inclusivity and belonging. The winners exhibit excellence in DEI&B and allyship leadership by connecting their organization with NextUp’s programming, which aids in removing the barriers that prevent women from advancing in the workplace.

  • Example 1: Supported belonging and inclusivity that resulted in a keen awareness and engagement in NextUp events, speaker opportunities, region activities, and leadership.
  • Example 2: Demonstrated ally leadership that resulted in employee career advancement, retention, innovation, and overall improved performance.
  • Example 3: Became an ally champion who promoted inclusivity in an actionable way for internal stakeholders and the community.
